Morning Manna: Restoring the Joy

“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, [Jesus] went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” (Mark 1:35)

Have you ever had one of those days where things are just NOT going the way you planned? You feel crappy, the kids aren’t listening, you feel crappy… oh wait, did I say that already?

I know how you feel. That was me not less than 24 hours ago. This morning I was reminded of Exodus 16:21 “So they gathered it [Manna-bread from heaven] every morning, every man according to his need. And when the sun became hot, it melted.” I was reminded that every morning when I neglect the Word of God, get up late, etc. the sun [cares of this world, the stress of life] will become hot and melt whatever scriptures I was able to remember.

Now don’t get me wrong, God’s Word is powerful regardless, however, is our heart ready to receive it when it is centered on the things of the day? I guess that’s why it’s important to seek God early in the morning. Why the Psalmist wrote “My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up” (Psalm 5:3).

So with renewed focus I have committed myself to getting my Morning Manna, reading the word of God before sunrise.
